A total of 4 Postdoctoral scientist and/or PhD students

 

The vacancies are initially limited for 2 years. There is a possibility of an employment extension subsequently. 

The group is dedicated to studying the biology of human macrophages in the context of infection. The aims are to understand which innate immune responses of macrophages are induced by different pathogens and to elucidate the evasion mechanisms these pathogens have evolved to counteract these immune responses. The pathogens studied by the group include viruses (HIV, HCMV), bacteria (Listeria monocytogenes) and eukaryotic parasites (Leishmania major). Positions are available immediately and will be filled as soon as suitable candidates are identified. Remuneration will be according to German public service regulation (TV-L).

Candidates should have a degree in biology or a related field and are expected to have a strong interest in molecular biology, infectious diseases and cell culture techniques. Experiences in immunology are a plus. Superior motivation, willingness and good communication skills in English are prerequisites.

Jänner 2011 die Stelle einer Universitätsprofessorin/eines Universitätsprofessors für Zellgenetik gemäß § 98 UG 2002 idgF aus. Die Professur ist am Department für Medizinische Genetik, Molekulare und Klinische Pharmakologie der Medizinischen Universität Innsbruck verankert. Bewerberinnen/Bewerber sollen auf dem Gebiet der Zellgenetik und Molekularen Immunologie, insbesondere der Untersuchung zur Signal-Weiterleitung unter Berücksichtigung translationaler Aspekte international ausgewiesen sein.

Zu den Aufgaben gehören die Vertretung des Faches Zellgenetik in Forschung und Lehre. Division of Immunology (polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies, therapeutic/tumour vaccines)
The division, which comprises some 50 staff, consists of five sections: Immunochemistry, Monoclonal and Polyclonal Antibodies, Morphology, and Therapeutic Vaccines and a Research Group (topics to be defined by the Head of Division). The division is responsible for the marketing authorisation and control of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies and therapeutic/tumour vaccines. The medicinal product assessment responsibilities of the division are underpinned by a continuing commitment to research and development in relevant areas in collaboration with specialists in other national agencies, academia, other governmental bodies and the World Health Organization. Research activities are under the direct responsibility of the Head of Division. The work is strongly interactive and requires close collaboration between the groups and other specialists within the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut and externally. 

Key responsibilities

• Scientific research in a field related to human immunology (see research programme of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut at http://www.pei.de/research). The applicant is expected to contribute to the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut’s scientific profile and to perform academic teaching

PhD student position in immunology at the Division of Rheumatology of the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich available (head: Prof. Dr. H. Schulze-Koops).

immunology. Our recent studies have identified Th17 cells as a major player in human autoimmune arthritis (Leipe et al. 2010. Arthritis Rheum. [Epub ahead of print] DOI 10.1002/art.27622). Using various approaches, the PhD project will investigate the molecular and immunological mechanisms underlying the unrestricted Th17 cell response observed in autoimmune inflammation.

Requirements:

  • graduation at a Master level (or equivalent) by the time of application with an above-average university degree (B+ or better; 2+ or better)
  • strong interest in immunology/ autoimmunity, and enthusiastic about research lab work
  • experience in cell culture and molecular biological techniques is advantageous
